Repentance Understood

‭‭Job‬ ‭42‬:‭1‬-‭6

“Then Job replied to the Lord: “I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted. You asked, ‘Who is this that obscures my plans without knowledge?’ Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know. “You said, ‘Listen now, and I will speak; I will question you, and you shall answer me.’ My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you. Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes.””

‭‭Job‬ ‭42‬:‭1‬-‭6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

It took Job some time to come to an understanding that he was indeed a guilty sinner, not for what he had done but for who he was, and that he had neither the cause nor the right to justify himself or to question the mighty hand of the omniscient and omnipotent God, we too should come to this realization.

For a time, all Job had was a shallow knowledge of God, but after his encounter with the Lord, he was given a deeper and more intimate awareness of Who God truly is. It was once said that the Son of God is revealed to us by the teaching of men, but the Son of God is revealed in us by the illumination of the Holy Spirit.

This was the thrilling outcome of Job's encounter with God and this is the lesson of faith and trust that God desires for all His children to understand , that God can do anything and God has the right to do whatsoever He will, and nothing that He plans and purposes is impossible, for He alone is God.

There is a picture of Job seeing God, that God’s mercy is real. That God, in all the things we walk through in our lives, is drawing us to Himself. We will behold him, our Redeemer who lives. We will behold him, our Redeemer who lives.

His redemption in our lives will be complete, and His redemption in the world will be complete. And He is working all things together. Yes, for our good. And ultimately, toward the day when there will be a new heaven and a new earth and all the old will be gone, the new will have come. No more sin and no more sorrow and no more evil and no more suffering and no more pain and no more death and no more wrestling.

Instead, the war will be over in our hearts, wars will be over in the world, and we will be with Him. His justice and righteousness will reign forever.

It looks as though God has humiliated Job and brought this poor, broken-hearted man down into the dust almost cruelly. Yet it is not cruelty, it is love because, at this point, when Job has finally given up trying to defend and justify himself, God begins to heal and pour into this man's life blessings he never dreamed of.

This is the story of the whole of Scripture, isn't it? Everywhere the Scriptures seek to tell us this. Jesus said, "Blessed are the poor in spirit, the men and women who are bankrupt in themselves, who stop counting on what they have to make it. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

God will begin to heal a life that repents before Him, and He will fill it with blessing and honor and glory and power. None of the prideful things to which we cling will be worth the smallest portion of the glory and joy we have discovered in coming into a relationship with God Himself!!!

Father thank You for this day and for this penetrating look at my own hearts. Lord open the floodgates of heaven and rain down Your abundant blessings over my friend and family today. Lord how proud we have been, how filled with self-justification with complaints before You. Lord teach us to put our hand upon our mouths and admit to You that the problem lies with us so You will heal and restore us. Lord help us stand firm on the unchangeable Word of truth, to hear You speak to us from Your Word, and to see You more clearly as we search the Scriptures. Lord use my friend to be the blessing someone needs today.

Father, we love You. Amen !
