Psalms 13:5-6
“I’ve thrown myself headlong into your arms— I’m celebrating your rescue. I’m singing at the top of my lungs, I’m so full of answered prayers.”
Psalms 13:5-6 MSG
I loved looking at the notes made so many years ago and reflecting on events as a young follower of Christ. During one of those times, I wrote down: "Faith is the bird that sings, while it is still dark, in anticipation of the dawn." I love that. The Holy Spirit challenged me through that statement to be a person who lived by faith, trusting that God can and will do what He has promised.
When my faith would wain, I would turn to God’s Word and look at the people listed in the "Faith Hall of Fame" of the Bible. The Spirit would use these people, named and unnamed, to restore the fire in my soul. They lived by faith, and I realized that now is my turn to live by faith.
One of the great blessings we have in the Scriptures is that we have the story of God's faithful love that preserved His people despite their flaws, failings, and times of faithlessness. God kept His promises to them despite their challenges with natural disasters, ruthless warriors, tyrannical kings, and weak faith.
Yet God remained true when His human partners failed to live up to His standards. The more we know of Israel's history, the more we realize it is "HIStory” the story of God's faithful love and His redeeming the world through His flawed yet chosen people. We know we can trust God's unfailing love because we see His faithfulness demonstrated through "HIStory” again and again.
He raised great leaders, tore down powerful nations ruled by ruthless tyrants, and altered the course of nature and history to preserve His promises and bring His Messiah.
We rejoice in more than God's past work in "HIStory.” We praise God because He has rescued, delivered, and saved us through Jesus.
He made us His children and poured out His gracious love on us through the Holy Spirit. Yes, we sing praises to God Most High! We shout with joy to our God of deliverance. He is good. His faithful love endures forever. He lavishes His love on us, and that is the basis for our loving others.
We trust in our God's unfailing love and His goodness to bring us home to live with Him in His glory, forever, where we will meet those great heroes in. So, we join the bird of faith that sings in anticipation of our coming and glorious dawn.
David started this psalm out crying out to God, feeling alone and that God had completely forgotten him. He felt that the enemy was winning the battle and that God did not care about him anymore. As he cries out to God, David begins to refocus his eyes on God and His great love. He realizes all the good things that God has already done for him and begins to rejoice and sing Him praise.
The challenges and trials that people face can seem very overwhelming, as though they are huge, insurmountable mountains. Looking so large, they can cause most people to focus only on the mountain of problems, rather than on God.
When you begin to focus your eyes on God and realize how big He really is, you can then begin to remember all that He has done for you already. You realize His great love for you. God has provided salvation for you by sending His Son Jesus to live and die on the cross. He rose Jesus from the dead so that you may live for eternity.
In the process of saving you, God has allowed various mountains to get in your way. They are there to build you more like Jesus. Instead of looking at the size of the mountain, look at the size of God and what He has already done for you.
Doing this will allow you to have a song of praise on your lips at all times. Give God praise for the wonderful things He has done and is doing in your life. Just keep singing praise to God!!!
Father thank You for this day and the song You put in our hearts today. Lord pour out Your abundant blessings today over my friend and family. Lord we trust in You and thank You that there are no circumstances of life that You do not know about. Lord we thank You that in all things we are more than a conqueror through You Who loved us and gave Yourself for us. Lord may we rejoice in the Lord at all times and in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, make my requests known to You for we have trusted in Your loving-kindness and our hearts rejoices in God our Savior. Lord use my friend to be a blessing that someone needs today.
Father, we love You. Amen !
