2 Corinthians 1:21-22
“Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.”
2 Corinthians 1:21-22 NIV
In these two verses, Paul mentions two gifts God gives when we become believers (1) a seal of ownership to show who our Master is, and (2) the Holy Spirit, who guarantees that we belong to him and will receive all his benefits. The Holy Spirit guarantees that salvation is ours now, and that we will be entitled to so much more when Christ returns. The great comfort and power the Holy Spirit gives us in this life is a foretaste of the benefits of our eternal life in God’s presence. With the privilege of belonging to God comes the responsibility of identifying ourselves as his faithful servants. We are positioned in Christ, and identified with Him by the Spirit of God, the moment we trust the Lord Jesus as Saviour. He baptises us into the body of Christ, for it is by the power of one Spirit that we have all been baptised into one body. Once we have been born again and saved by grace through faith in Christ, we are to be established in our faith. We are to grow in grace and in a knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, for the rest of our lives. Just as we were saved by the grace and power of God, so also, we are to be established by that same grace and power, through the ongoing process of sanctification. We are not to remain in spiritual infancy. We are not to stay a baby Christian for the rest of our time on earth. We are to develop spiritually and progress in the faith. Having been born into the family of God we are to grow up into mature sons and daughters. We are to be transformed, day by day, into the image and likeness of Jesus. The test of genuine disciples and true followers of Jesus is the presence of the Holy Spirit living in them. The Spirit transforms Jesus followers to become like Him. The Spirit helps produce the fruit of Jesus' character and compassion in our lives. Now, in today's verses, we are reminded that the Holy Spirit is God's pledge to show we belong to Him, that He claims us, and that we are His by something much greater than blood relationship, we are God's children through the Holy Spirit. He will complete the work he has begun in us, bringing us to himself in glorious joy. The Holy Spirit is our guarantee, our assurance, that this promise is true and that we are God's.God, Himself has guaranteed our ongoing and eternal security, in Christ and His Word can never be broken. How blessed we are to have been given such security in our soul, and to have God's very seal of ownership, eternally stamped upon our lives. And remember, God's Word can never be broken, for all His promises are yes and amen in Christ Jesus our Lord!!
Father thank you for this day and as we consider all that has been given to us by grace, through simply trusting in Christ as our sin-sacrifice and heavenly Saviour, we humbly bow in grateful praise and thanksgiving for Your goodness and grace, towards us. Lord let Your abundant blessings be my friend and family’s portion today. Lord keep our heart broken before You and keep the Cross ever before our eyes, knowing that we are established in You, and eternally secure by Your grace and mercy, through faith. Lord may we die to self and live for You alone, and may we grow in grace to Your praise and glory. Lord use my friend to be a blessing of Your love to all today. Daddy we love You amen. Be a blessing. Love ya !
